Does lifting really make women bulky?

The art of weight lifting or resistance training for men or women, is designed to put on muscle mass or at least prevent muscle loss in the body. It can also improve bone density. That being said muscle is muscle, I think people get confused cause we often refer to it as lean muscle mass. This is a bit of a mistake, you see muscle is neither lean or bulky it is just muscle. This mistake is usually made because sometimes we refer to what is called lean body mass. This is essentially the weight of our muscle mass, as well as bones and bodily fluid. It is our weight minus fat mass. We then end up saying lean muscle mass by mistake but as I said muscle is just muscle it is neither lean or bulky.

What gives the appearance of being lean or bulky is actually due to how much body fat someone is carrying. When we are carrying less body fat, our muscle show more clearly, giving us a leaner more “toned” physique. When someone has a bulkier physique it is because there is more body fat covering those muscles.

So no weight lifting really won’t make women bulky, it will just improve their muscle size and strength. What will make us bulky or not is how much body fat we are carrying, and this will come down to our dietary intake, along with our activity levels and lifestyles.
