Top 3 foods for increased energy and focus?
There are many different foods that spring to mind when I think of foods to give me energy and focus and as such I will try and provide you with a mixture of options so we are covering all your needs.
Bananas: My go to quick energy snack. While bananas are a good natural source of sugar, they are also rich in fibres that help slow the digestion of that sugar so you are less likely to experience the energy crash afterwards. In fact researchers even compared bananas to carbohydrate sports drinks in cyclists who needed sustained energy for their long rides. They found that the banana offered just as much fuel to the riders as the drink. You may also see tennis players at Wimbledon reaching for this as a go to snack in between games. Bananas are a great source of potassium, vitamin B6, and vitamin C. All of which can help improve energy levels and focus.
Salmon: Okay less of a quick snack but salmon is one of the best sources of omega 3 fatty acids, which are essential for health and cognitive function but is also a great source of protein, and B vitamins. B vitamins are essential in energy production for the body and therefore making sure we are getting in the right amounts of all the B vitamins is vital for improving sustained energy levels throughout the day.
Plain Greek yogurt with blueberries (okay not a food but a winning combination): Greek yogurt while providing you with a good source of protein also contains some carbs and fats, so has you covered from all angles. The addition of blueberries will add some extra vitamins and antioxidants which will be working to improve health. Because of the protein from the yogurt and fibre from the berries the glycaemic load of this snack should be low and therefore help provide you sustained energy and focus.
